Book of Condolences for the family of Jack Layton

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 25, 2011

BOOK OF CONDOLENCES FOR THE FAMILY OF JACK LAYTON AVAILABLE FOR SIGNATURE AT TOWN HALL

In the days following Jack Layton’s death at the age of 61, a number of residents in the Town of Fort Erie shared their desire to express sympathies in a community Book of Condolences honouring the Official Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the NDP Party and his lasting legacy “Letter to Canadians”. The flags at all Town properties are flying at half-mast until Mr. Layton is laid to rest in Toronto on Saturday.

Mayor Martin noted “Our community has always come together to recognize those that have made positive changes in our lives. Mr. Layton spent the majority of his life working for the people and that work is reflected in the outpouring from the community and country in recognition of his dedication and efforts”.

Due to the generosity of the Benner Funeral Home, a Book of Condolences has been made available to the public for signing at Town Hall, located at 1 Municipal Centre Drive, Fort Erie, until Friday, September 2, 2011. Town Hall offices are opened Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The Book of Condolences will be sent to Jack Layton’s wife, Olivia Chow.

It a pretty sad state of affairs that no one will comment on the passing of a man like Jack Layton but everyone has an opinion about the Crystal Beach Gateway Project.

Goodbye Jack may you rest in peace
