Every four years, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) updates the value of every property in the province as part of Ontario’s assessment cycle. The current Assessment Update is taking place in 2016, based on a valuation date of January 1, 2016.
In Fort Erie, residential property owners will receive their Property Assessment Notices starting August 2, 2016. Farm Property Assessment Notices will be mailed on October 11, 2016, and Multi-Residential and Business notices will be mailed October 18, 2016. The new assessment will serve as the basis for calculating property taxes for 2017-2020.
Once a property owner receives a Property Assessment Notice, they may review it however no further action is required. If a property owner disagrees with the assessed value and/or classification, they may apply for a Request for Reconsideration no later than November 30, 2016.
For information on how the assessment works, market trends, the Request for Reconsideration process and property assessment and taxation, MPAC recommends that property owners call 1-866-296-6722 or visit www.aboutmyproperty.ca.
