Town Hires Fire Chief

After a search that produced applicants from across Canada, the Town of Fort Erie has selected one of its own to be the new Fire Chief. Ed Melanson will take over as head of Fort Erie Fire and Emergency Services on April 24, 2017.

“Ed’s passion for and knowledge of the Fort Erie Fire Department will be a great asset as we prepare for the future under a new management team”, said Keith German, Interim Fire Chief.

Currently a Training Officer with the City of Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, Mr. Melanson began his firefighting career in 2005 as a volunteer with the Fort Erie Fire Department, eventually rising to the rank of Captain in Station No. 3. As a trainer and mentor to other volunteers, he served eight years as President of the East Bertie Volunteer Firefighters Association and has been active in several minor sports and community associations.

“As the former General Manager of Aero-Safe Group, Mr. Melanson brings to the role a unique combination of business acumen and fire service expertise”, said Tom Kuchyt, Chief Administrative Officer.

Council will consider a by-law at their regular meeting April 24, 2017 to make the appointment official.

This was the right choice. I personally had the pleasure of working with Ed at Station #3. He is nothing less than an incredible mentor and teacher. Thank you Town of Fort Erie for getting this right!
