Water and wastewater projects approved under the more than $569 million Canada-Ontario Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF) agreement are designed to improve the safety and quality of water for Canadian families, while supporting a clean economy.

Last week the Honourable Charles Sousa, Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Honourable Bob Chiarelli, Ontario Minister of Infrastructure, announced that the Town of Fort Erie has been approved for over $1.7 million in total eligible costs under the Government of Canada’s Clean Water and Wastewater Fund. The federal government is providing up to 50 per cent of funding for the replacement of aging water and sanitary sewer infrastructure along sections of Dufferin Street, Murray Street and Battery Street. The provincial government is providing up to 25 per cent of funding for this project, and the Town of Fort Erie will provide the balance of funding.

The capital replacement program along these streets is planned for construction in 2018. As a result of this investment, residents of Fort Erie will benefit from improved water and sanitary systems and improved system performance. Replacing aging infrastructure assists in reducing infiltration from outside sources, and may contribute to lower wastewater treatment costs.
