After a short, one-month delay, the Town of Fort Erie is back on track and ready to show off its new transit service upgrades, which take effect on Monday, Oct. 2.
“Fort Erie’s large land mass and multiple population centres have created challenges for our transit services in the past,” said Carla Stout, Transit Manager. “With input from Council, the Town’s citizen Transit Advisory Committee, multiple focus groups and a public survey, we were able to build the framework behind new transit routes, schedules and capabilities that meet most of the needs expressed by the participants.”
Some key highlights regarding upgrades to the Town’s transit system include:
- Expanded routes in Fort Erie, Ridgeway and Crystal Beach
- Additional route to Stevensville and Black Creek
- Connections to Niagara Falls, Brock University and Niagara College
- New main transit hub located at the Municipal Centre
- Expanded hours from 6am to 9pm on all routes
- New pre-paid smart cards available as a day/monthly pass or dollar value
- Audio and visual pre-boarding and onboard announcements of routes and stops
- New Fort Erie Transit website (fetransit.ca) with current route, bus location and updated arrival times available in real-time; up-to-date transit alerts and detours, and trip planning capabilities.
“Providing our community with convenient, cost-effective transportation is essential to meet the growing demands of our residents and others traveling within our town,” said Mayor Wayne Redekop. “Since the beginning of this Council term, we have made transportation a priority. By connecting our residents through municipal and regional transit systems, we are able to make a stronger, more accessible Fort Erie for all.”
FET offers riders the convenience of paying with cash, debit or credit when purchasing smart cards. Exact cash is accepted on board for a single ride. Children under 5 years and post-secondary students with a valid Brock University U-PASS or Niagara College Student ID (with transit sticker) are free.

When will new transit schedule be handed out
Hard copies of the schedule will be available on-board the buses tomorrow and at Town Hall.
My mother is 93 and lives in Crystal Beach.
Her main concern is that the bus is still stopping at the Plaza where the TD bank and Shoppers Drug Mart is and also the Walmart.
Is there a specific Bus No.?
Thanks,
Donna
Hi Donna! Both Bus 1 and Bus 2 serve the International Plaza where Sobeys/ Shoppers and TD Bank are located – the stops are on Garrison Road (Bus Stops# 33 and 118 at the driveway entrances to the plaza. Stop #30 is also served by Bus 1 and 2 right on the Walmart property. If you or your mom have any questions about timing of the schedule, you can call 1-833-BUS-LINE for more information. Hope this helps! Cheers, Janine
