Town Council Approves the Development of a Waverly Beach Ad Hoc Committee

MEDIA RELEASE (November 7, 2017) During last night’s Council-in-Committee meeting, Town Council approved Staff’s recommendation for the development of a Waverly Beach Ad Hoc (WBAH) committee. The purpose of the WBAH committee will be to research initiatives and strategies in order to mitigate the accumulation of algae at Waverly Beach Park, so it does not negatively impact the public’s enjoyment of the park.

“An Ad-Hoc Committee is typically formed for a specific task or objective, and dissolved after the completion of the task or achievement of the objective,” said Signe Hansen, Manager, Community Planning.

Staff recommended using a committee model typically used to establish a Community Focus Group. The model includes the appointment of interested Council representatives, appropriate support staff and the solicitation of community members. It is recommended that the appointed community members demonstrate experience, knowledge and/or expertise relative to the environment, coastal engineering, botany, etc.

A call for Expressions of Interest to participate on the Ad Hoc Committee will be issued in the next month. It is anticipated the Ad Hoc Committee will be appointed in January 2018. For more information, please contact Signe Hansen at shansen@forterie.ca or call 905-871-1600, ext. 2506.
