MEDIA RELEASE (April 26, 2018) Fort Erie residents can now watch a live broadcast of the Town of Fort Erie Council, Council-in-Committee and Council-in-Budget Committee meetings on the Internet via YouTube. The live streaming will allow online viewers to watch meetings in real time or browse the archive for previous meetings.
This initiative is part of the Town’s commitment to the community made through the 2015-2018 corporate strategic plan Fort Erie: A welcoming, prosperous, connected community of choice to build better customer service, relationships and communications.
“During the Budget process, Town Council dedicated $100,000 to update the failing Council Chambers AV system. Part of that project made live streaming our Council meetings possible. We know how busy people are and what interest there is in the community about our meetings. By introducing live video streaming, we are able to provide our residents with a convenient way to watch current or past meetings, either at home or on a mobile device,” said Mayor Wayne Redekop. “Through this initiative residents can become more engaged and informed of the discussions taking place in Council Chambers.”
Up until now, the Town had partnered with Cogeco TV to cover Council meetings as well as offered live audio streaming service to its community. Live Youtube video streaming expands this coverage and provides the community with an additional way to acquire information about Town activities. Cogeco’s television broadcast of the meetings will continue to be available on channel 10 and 700 on the Thursday afternoon following the meeting at 1 p.m. Live audio streaming will also continue via the Town’s website.
The live webcast will be streamed at www.youtube.com/townofforterie or click on the Youtube icon on the home page of the Town’s website (www.forterie.ca). For more information, please contact, Kelly Davis, Digital Services Manager, at kdavis@forterie.ca or 905-871-1600, ext. 2801.
