Blacklegged Ticks

The NPCA has just released their most recent findings on tick populations in the Niagara Peninsula. The following areas have identified as high risk for ticks (blacklegged/deer ticks): Point Abino in Fort Erie and Christie Lake in Hamilton. Please note that ticks are not just a summer pest, but can survive into the fall and even in the winter.

It is the blacklegged/deer ticks that carry Lyme disease, a disease that has debilitating effects on the human body. Please wear long pants and light coloured clothing to help deter ticks.

If you find a tick on you please be advised that you can bring it to the Niagara Region Public Health Satellite Office on Garrison Road to have it tested.

Blacklegged Ticks are not just a summer concern, but can live in the fall and winter.
