Four representatives from the Town of Fort Erie, Mayor Redekop, Councillor Passero, Councillor Butler and CAO Tom Kuchyt, are all attending the 2018 Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa this week.

At the end of each day a re-cap of the day’s events specifically those pertaining to Fort Erie will be posted on the Fort Erie Blog.

Tuesday was an important and busy day for our attendees at AMO, as they had two private meetings with two Ministers. The first meeting was with the Minister of Tourism Sylvia Jones where a number of issues that are important to Fort Erie: the Niagara Parks marina/resort development, a focus on the coal docks remediation and creation of a new park and the return of the slots to the Fort Erie Racetrack. All of these topics were presented and discussed and received positive feedback.

The second meeting was with the Minister of Economic Development and Growth Jim Wilson, this meeting went extremely well. Minister Wilson agreed that further discussion is required and he would be open to a further meeting in Toronto or Fort Erie. These are all positives for Fort Erie, bringing new jobs and opportunities to the community.

Attendees also attended various other sessions including one with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark, housing is an important issue in Fort Erie especially regarding affordable housing. This was followed by a Ministers’ Forum, where Cabinet Ministers had an interactive question and answer session.

Finally, day ended with a reception at the War Museum, an opportunity to further meet with other elected representatives and share information and ideas.
