Fort Erie experiences record-breaking year for building permits in 2020

FORT ERIE (March 2, 2021) Recently, Town staff published information pertaining to Fort Erie’s subdivision status, building permit activity and by-law statistics for the fourth quarter (Q4) and overall year-end performance in 2020.

Despite the number of permits decreasing from 644 in 2019 to 591 in 2020, 2020 was a record-breaking year with total permit values equalling nearly $129 million. In 2019, the year-end value of permits was about $108 million. 

The residential permit activity for Q4 of 2020 consisted of 65 permits issued for new residential housing valuing about $27 million, with the majority (32%) of permits being issued in the Ridgeway-Thunder Bay area.  

Subdivision and building permit activity is reported to Council on a quarterly-basis. This information helps staff monitor new development and intensification occurring throughout the Town.
