Recreational fires in Fort Erie allowed between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. only

FORT ERIE (September 20, 2021) The Fort Erie Fire Department wants to remind Fort Erie residents and visitors that recreational burning is allowed between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. only.

“Fort Erie’s Open-air Burning by-law consists of fair rules for having recreational campfires without negatively impacting your neighbours. The purpose of the bylaw is to help reduce burning complaints. Following the burning by-law helps to keep emergency crews available for other incidents and reduces costs associated with emergency responses,” said Ed Melanson, fire chief.

Consequences of not following the fire burning by-law will result in the individual receiving a Burn Notice. A second Burn Notice within a 12-month period may result in an invoice of $488.40 per responding fire vehicle for the first hour and $244.20 per responding fire vehicle for each half-hour thereafter. Burning of construction materials, brush, garbage, yard waste, etc. is also prohibited at any time of the day.
