Canadian Rock Band “The Trews” will Headline Fort Erie’s 13 for 13 Cultural
Event in August

Fort Erie is expecting approximately 6,000 visitors during this one-day event


FORT ERIE (June 29, 2022) – As part of the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games, The Town of Fort Erie welcomes the 13 For 13 Cultural Festival to Old Fort Erie on Friday, August 12, 2022,
from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Travel across Canada without ever leaving Niagara. All 13 Niagara municipalities will collaborate
with one of Canada’s 13 provinces/territories to showcase the unique cultural heritage,
entertainment, art, and culinary experiences of each pairing during their assigned special night.
The 13 For 13 Cultural Festival will rotate, changing from one municipality to another over 13
days in August. This one-of-a-kind initiative has never been done before by any other Canada
Games host. Admission to each of the 13 municipality events will be free to everyone.


In partnership with host sponsor Niagara Parks and provincial partner Nova Scotia, the Fort Erie
event (August 12, 2022) will offer food trucks, local vendors, a liquor licensed area, children’s
programming, Scottish heavy sports demonstrations, the Creator’s Game, musical
entertainment and a headline performance by six-time JUNO award nominee, The Trews. The
Trews are a Canadian rock band originating from Antigonish, Nova Scotia. They are among the
top 150 best-selling Canadian artists in Canada, producing well-known hits: Not Ready to Go,
Poor Ol’ Broken Hearted Me, Paranoid Freak, Tired of Waiting, Highway of Heroes, and more.

Torch Relay – Saturday, July 2, 2022 (9:00 am-11:00 am)
The Canada Summer Games Torch Relay Event is coming to Fort Erie on July 2, 2022. Fort Erie
Mayor Wayne Redekop will be the first individual to run with the torch. The “Pep Rally” starts at
9:00 am at Crystal Ridge Arena, and the “Ending Celebration” takes place at 11:00 am at the
Fort Erie Leisureplex. Please show your support as the torch passes through our Town!


Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games – August 6 to 21, 2022
The Canada Games, held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, are the
largest multi-sport event in the country and represent the pinnacle of interprovincial/territorial
sports competition. As the best in their age group, these young competitors have trained for
years to represent their province/territory at the Games. Since 1967, nearly 100,000 athletes
have participated in the Games, with hundreds of thousands having engaged in try-outs and
qualifying events. In addition, over 100,000 coaches, officials, and volunteers have been directly
involved in planning and staging the competition, revealing the proud history and enormous
reach of the Canada Games.
